The History
The Malamute name comes from the Mahlemut tribe in Alaska who bred these hardy animals & their use by this tribe dates back 2 to 3 thousand years. A highly valued member of society, the Malamute pulled sled was the primary source of transportation over frozen tundras.
Their keen sense of smell, hardiness & inner compass have made them the dog of choice for Polar expeditions throughout the years.

Because of their sheer strength, tenacity, hardiness and good nature the Alaskan Malamute has traveled far and wide (especially to the cold places).
About the Breed
The largest of the Arctic breeds, the Malamute is build solid and carries it’s plumed tail over its back. They are loyal, intelligent and affectionate & too friendly to be an effective guard dog. Traditionally they have been used for transportation, hauling goods, search & rescue & racing.
The Malamute has also been the star of unforgettable stories by both Jack London & Rudyard Kipling.
Interesting Fact
Alaskan Malamutes were often used to portray wolves in the movies, which is why there is a common misconception that they are part wolf. Although their ancestors came from the Arctic wolf, they have been bred for thousands of years and are a distinct breed of domestic dog today.
